Who are the Friends of Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra?
Any person or organisation who wishes to show their support of the Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra can become a Friend. Many of our Friends have supported us over many years, and their continuing contribution is particularly appreciated.

Why become a Friend?
Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra is self-funding through membership subscriptions, concert income and support from the Friends. We do not receive any support from local authorities. Support from the Friends is therefore vital in enabling us to perform classical music to a high standard.

Benefits
A WPO Friend receives the following benefits:
-
Newsletters and information updates from the Orchestra
-
The option of being named in the concert programmes as a Friend
-
£1 discount on a single ticket for each concert when purchased at the Box Office
-
Invitations to occasional special functions
How do I become a Friend?
Membership of the Friends is an annually renewable subscription for the October-June concert season.
The suggested contribution is £20 for an individual, a couple or a household, or £40 for a business or commercial enterprise. However, we welcome any contribution from Friends, and these amounts are for guidance only.

Joining the WPO

Please apply to join by filling out the form HERE or clicking the 'Apply Now' button elsewhere.

If we feel that you meet our required standard, we will first of all invite you to join us for a rehearsal so that we can make an assessment of your playing in context. Following this, we may invite you to join the orchestra immediately, or otherwise offer you a trial period with us (usually a number of rehearsals and including a concert). If invited to join, you would be expected to pay a subscription to the orchestra, and we ask you to take note of the Membership Details section of this website.
Percussion (General Section Member)

The WPO is seeking at least two percussionists to attend Monday evening rehearsals on a fairly regular basis, depending on the requirements of the repertoire programmed. As a high-standard non-professional orchestra, the WPO is fortunate to have its own extensive collection of first rate orchestral percussion instruments, which are available for all rehearsals. You will be working alongside our Principal Timpanist who, as a respected teacher of percussion, will provide mentoring to other members of the section.
Strings (General Section Members)

The WPO welcomes applications from any string player wishing to join, but particularly Viola and Double Bass players who can commit to regular Monday evening rehearsals and wish to broaden and develop their existing orchestral experience. Applicants must be of at least Grade 8 standard, and should have confident sight-reading ability. Violin applicants will preferably be of diploma/conservatoire standard and be in regular practice.
